Concerning the presidential elections in the U.S., the Portuguese Communist Party believes that the election of Barack Obama as President is far from meeting the expectations that the huge worldwide media campaign tried to build to create the illusion of change and of a shift in U.S. policy and its role in the international sphere.
The massive operation produced for the purpose of the U.S. presidential election can not be separated from the current crisis of capitalism – which has been particularly pronounced in the U.S. – and several ongoing attempts seeking to rehabilitate the capitalist system and the role of the dominant power that the U.S. represents at international level.
Not ignoring differences between the Republican candidates and Democrats, the PCP believes the truth is that both candidates did not mask the their link to a project of economic, ideological and military domination in the world.
