Dear Workers, Brothers and Sisters,
Dear workers who joined with the WFTU and raised our workers flags in the recent May Day mobilizations,
Dear workers who count your victims every day due to the pandemic and the indifference of capitalist governments,
The WFTU, on behalf of its affiliates in 133 countries around the planet — 155 million members strong — addresses each of you, calling on you to IMMEDIATELY express your internationalist solidarity with the people and working class of Colombia.
The Colombian people have been in mobilizations since April 28, against the tax reform project enacted by the anti-people government of I. Duque in Colombia. Under pressure from workers’ protests, the government backed down. The country’s working class forced the government to withdraw the bill, which was already being debated in Parliament. This maneuver of the government does not convince any worker. Nevertheless it constitutes a victory that shows that class struggles bring results.
The government has unleashed a ruthless repression. So far, according to official data, there are reports of 27 dead, more than 800 people injured and 431 detained. The Colombian people need our immediate solidarity.
We call on each class-oriented militant to express his/her internationalist solidarity as briefly as possible, with protests outside the Colombian embassies around the world, waving the flags of the WFTU and his/her own union organization with the slogan:
NO MORE MASSACRES OF COLOMBIAN WORKERS
SATISFACTION OF THE JUST CLAIMS OF THE WORKING CLASS IN COLOMBIA
Please send your correspondence, photos and actions urgently.
