Communist Party of Greece
Dear comrades and friends,
The Communist Party of Greece (KKE) salutes the celebration of the 100th anniversary of the Great October Revolution, to be held in New York on November 7th.
The October Revolution is undoubtedly the climactic world-historic event of the 20th century. It demonstrated that capitalism is not invincible, that we can construct a society without exploitation of man by man.
Socialism, despite the huge difficulties it faced, solved for the very first time vital people’s problems like housing, health care, education, full-time work for all; eliminated insecurity for the future, established women’s rights and equity, abolished ethnic and racial discriminations; problems that capitalism cannot solve, that does not even strives to solve as they provide areas for increasing the capital’s profits. The Soviet Union crushed the monster of Nazi-fascism, it supported the anti-colonial and liberation movements around the word, defended peace and disarmament.
The October Revolution confirmed and highlighted the irreplaceable role of the Communist Party, of the political vanguard of the working class: both for the organization of the struggle of the working class during hard, counter-revolutionary, periods, as well as in a revolutionary situation leading the struggle for the overthrow of the bourgeois power, and during the building of the new communist society.
The counterrevolutionary overthrows of 1989-1991 do not change the character of our era, era of the transition from capitalism to socialism. The defense of the historic contribution of the USSR along with the critical examination of the factors that led to the counter-revolution can be turned into sources for drawing lessons, for the enrichment of the strategy of the communist movement from positions defending Marxism-Leninism.
We are convinced that the 21st century will be the century of a new upsurge of the international revolutionary movement, the century of socialist revolutions.
