Venezuela: from the Left, concern and rejection of the actions of Nicolas Maduro.

From leftist conviction, committed to democracy, we express our concern at the events taking place in Venezuela and our firm rejection of the possible ignoring of the popular will expressed in the polls.
The proclamation of Nicolas Maduro as president re-elected by the National Electoral Council of Venezuela is based on unverifiable results that cast a serious blanket of doubt on the respect for the will of that brotherly people. The claim to anoint a president without a single counting of the polling stations on 28 July being made public is unacceptable and without even a figure on the votes obtained by eight of the ten candidates being provided.
This flagrant violation of the Organic Law on Electoral Processes is the culmination of a flawed process during which candidates were outlawed, the conduct of campaigns outside the government was hindered, witnesses’ access to the ballot was difficult, the vote of Venezuelan citizens living abroad was limited, and many foreign electoral observers were prevented.
In this scenario, we call on the international community to adopt a firm attitude so that Venezuela can channel its future through coexistence and unrestricted respect for the rules of democracy. We call on the Venezuelan authorities to disseminate the minutes of the count as soon as possible and call for no form of repression to be exercised against those who, exercising their right to legitimate protest, express their rejection throughout the country in the face of this situation.
Those of us who signed express our solidarity and embrace the Venezuelan people, including those who in recent years had to leave their country in painful conditions and today are part of various communities around the world, including ours.
